Drawings and Thoughts Project
March 16, 2020 - June 18, 2020
A weekly online journal series to document—and draw—during our time apart. Together!
In response to the overnight shutdown of our studio due to COVID-19, we launched this online project consisting of 84 sessions. Each week, more than 80 artists, ages 2-72, tuned in from Alaska, California, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Montana, New York, Puerto Rico, and South Carolina.
They learned an art vocabulary word, practiced a drawing technique, developed character-drawing skills, and shared a journal entry by answering the weekly 'Dialogue Time Question'.
The ‘Dialogue Time Questions’ were devised to prompt memory and observation-based answers that are personal yet approachable. The answers offer a glimpse of ‘the now’ during this unprecedented time.
The project provided a moment in each artist’s schedule to learn some new skills as a way to share their observations. In many instances, artists shared the same reflections, helping all to feel less alone. In the future, the project provides an opportunity for artists to say “That was a wild time, and I also participated in something really cool.”
The video is a compilation of drawings and Dialogue Time Question responses from every participant.
